EDMODO – ASSIGNMENTS AND GRADES
IMPORTANT – Every student must sign up for an Edmodo account. Edmodo is the online learning platform I use to assign homework and give grades. It is also an easy way for students to ask me questions and turn in homework if they are absent.

What is Edmodo? Edmodo is a free and secure social learning network for teachers, students and schools. It provides a safe and easy way for us to connect, share content and access homework, grades and school notices.Edmodo is not a social network like Facebook.

The teacher in Edmodo can see all student interaction. Anything posted by a student is stored and can be retrieved, even if deleted. Students cannot send private messages to another student, join groups outside their course, create a personal page, create a photo album, invite friends, or connect with other students or individuals not in their class
PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BELOW TO SIGN UP IN YOUR EDMODO CLASSROOM ASAP. This needs to be complete before the first day of class. I can help you on the day of the parent meeting if you need help.

STUDENTS: Follow these simple steps to get started:

1 – You need to obtain a 6-digit Group Code from your teacher.
The codes for my classes are:
Wordsmith (Flint) – 3cf5nz
Medieval IEW (Lapeer) –  diqveu
Remedies for Writing (Lapeer) – 5sq9yz
Response to Literature (Lapeer) – 6a9ksb
Academic Writing (Lapeer) – EACH SEGMENT HAS ITS OWN CODE. If you are taking all three classes, sign up for all three on Edmodo.
         Basic Essay – mt9hu8
         Research Writing – c2kkf2
         Advanced Essay – d42f46
2 – Go to www.edmodo.com and click “Students.”
3 – NEW STUDENTS ONLY – If you have not yet created an Edmodo Account, you’ll join your first Group when you sign up on Edmodo. Fill out the registration form with the Group Code, a unique username, and password. An email address is not required to sign up for a Student Account. Select the “Sign up” button to complete the sign up process. You will then see the Group your teacher created in the left side panel.

ALREADY HAVE AN EDMODO ACCOUNT?  Once you have created your account and are in a Group, you can join multiple Groups with your single Edmodo Account.
a – Log in with your existing username and password.(If you forgot your password, let me know and I can reset it for you.)
b – Click the “Join a Group” button towards the bottom of the Groups list.
c – Type in the 6-digit Group Code from your teacher and click “Join.”

Edmodo is accessible online and on any mobile device with Internet capabilities. Check out the free iPhone or Android app. You can access your account on the go, and adjust your notification settings within Edmodo to receive alerts via text or email.

PARENTS: Edmodo also offers parent accounts.

With Parent Accounts, you can:
~ View your child’s homework assignments and due dates
~ Stay up to date on your child’s grades
~ Receive updates on class and school events

After your child has created a Student Account, you can create a Parent Account using your child’s unique Parent Code. You will not use a Group Code as Parent Accounts do not join Groups.  Once you create your Parent Account, you are automatically observing any Group/class that your child is part of on his/her account.

You will need an email address to sign up for your Parent account.  If your email addresses is in use on your child’s Student account, then you can remove the email address from the student account so that you can use it on your Parent account.  Student accounts do not require an email address.

How to Sign Up as a Parent:
1 – Obtain the unique 6-digit Parent Code from your child’s account (NOTE: this is not the same as your child’s Group Code).
The Parent Code is attached to your child’s account. Each child has a different Parent Code. You can find your Parent Code the following ways: Your child’s Edmodo Homepage: the Parent Code is located on the bottom of the left side panel or your child’s teacher can provide you with the Parent Code.

2 – Go to www.edmodo.com on a web browser (currently, you cannot create your Parent Account on the mobile or iPad Edmodo apps).

3 – Click “Parents.”

4 – Fill in the necessary information and your unique Parent Code, and check the box to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

5 – Click “Sign Up.”

You only need one Parent Account your entire time on Edmodo.  Even if you have multiple children using Edmodo, you can add them all to your one account. There is never a need to create a new Parent Account (and there is never a need for your child to create a new Student Account as well). If your child did create a new account, simply obtain the Parent Code associated with your child’s new account and add it to your existing Parent Account. As your child joins or leaves classes or schools, your account will automatically update to reflect these changes.

Note: Each child has a different Parent Code. You do not have to share a Parent Account with another parent, relative, or guardian. Multiple Parent Accounts can be set up for one student. Simply use the same Parent Code found on the student’s account to create a second Parent Account (must have a different email address).

After you sign up for the first time, you will no longer need the parent code – you’ll login using your unique username and password to login.

Let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to connecting with you on Edmodo!
